SRINAGAR: Amid the outcry, the directorate of school education Kashmir (DSEK) has set up a helpline for the students, parents and other stakeholders to register their complaints and grievances with regard to ongoing exams of class 10th, 11th and 12th.

The department has advised the masses to register their text message on 9419013675 to register their complaints.

“We may not be able to attend every call but students and parents are requested to send a text message on the said number and they will be responded quickly,” said DSEK G N Itoo.

The ongoing exams are being conducted by JK Board of School Education (BOSE) in Kashmir, winter zones of Jammu besides Leh and Kargil districts.

The JKBOSE and education department had to cut a sorry figure earlier after the students had to appear in exams in candlelight during the daytime.

The students faced inconvenience due to non-electrification of schools designated as exam centres. Most of the students complained that their centres have been designed in dingy rooms of government schools.

“The students are not provided proper seating and heating facility during exams as well,” the students said.

In wake of the complaints, the DSEK on Sunday convened a meeting with the officers of the education department and instructed them to put in place a proper arrangement of heating and lighting in the exam centres.

The field officers have been also directed to make proper arrangement for lower class exams slated from November 08.

Meanwhile, the students demanding postponement of their exams scheduled on November 05 complained that their calls are not being responded to on the helpline number.

“BOSE should postpone our paper scheduled for Monday keeping in view the prevailing situation and non-availability of facilities in our exam centres,” demanded a student.
