Three militants killed in Anantang encounter

All three slain locals, were affiliated with LeT; one killed militant was involved in killing of TA soldier in June 2019: IGP Kashmir

ANANTNAG: Three militants were killed in an encounter at Kawarigam village of Achabal in Southern district of Anantang on Saturday, police said.

A police official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that acting on a specific lead, joint teams of police, army’s 19 RR and CRPF laid a siege at village Kawarigam in Achabal area. “When the joint teams zeroed in on the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire triggering a gun-battle,” the official said.

In the initial exchange of fire, two militants were killed while the third one continued to engage the forces from different locations. “After sometime, the third one was also killed,” the official said.

Talking to KNO, IGP Kashmir said that all three slain were affiliated to Lashkar outfit and one of them identified as Arif Hajam, was involved in the killing of a Territorial Army soldier on June 6, 2019. Arif is a resident of Sadoora, Anantnag.

The other two slain militants were identified as Basit Ahmad from Telwani, Anantnag and Suhail Ahmad from Pulwama were killed in an encounter in Kwaripora area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Police requested the people to stay away from the encounter site till the area is sanitized. Today’s encounter was six in a row in South Kashmir in the past 11 days that was the killing of 15 militants including two top commanders of Lashkar-e-Toiba outfit.
