AEF to kick off in Nur-Sultan Delegates from 100 countries to take part

New Delhi: From May 16 to May 17, the “XII Astana Economic Forum (AEF) – Inspiring Growth: People, Cities, Economies” will be held in Nur-Sultan, said managing director of Astana EXPO-2017 JSC Ruslan Zhemkov at a press conference in the Central Communications Service.

Zhemkov informed that this year about 5 thousand people will take part in the AEF-2019. Half of them are foreign delegates from 100 countries of the world. “For 11 years, the forum has gained the status of one of the most influential international platforms, including in our region. Over all these years, more than 50 thousand delegates from 150 countries of the world attended the forum, including more than 20 Nobel laureates, more than 30 high-ranking foreign political figures. For 11 years, more than 300 memorandums and agreements worth more than $ 20 billion have been concluded at the forum,” he said.

AEF events traditionally take place in the format of panel sessions, round tables, conferences and business dialogues. A total 50 sessions are planned at the forum.

The most important events at the site of the XII Astana Economic Forum will be: sessions with participations of country’s leader,  International Conference in honor of the 100th anniversary of the International Labor Organization (ILO) to study and discuss the report of the global commission on the future of labor, an interim meeting on the preparation of the 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO supreme body) in 2020, the first Kazakhstan forum on sustainable development goals under the auspices of the UN, a strategic session with the participation of the world intellectual elite and the government of Kazakhstan under the auspices of the G-Global International Secretariat, a round table of ministers of finance and heads of central banks of the countries of the Caucasus and Central Asia region Member States of the Eurasian Economic Union and Mongolia.

Chairman of the Board of the Economic Research Institute JSC, Yerlik Karzhanov, noted that the Astana Economic Forum this year will be devoted to the theme “Inspiring Growth: People, Cities, Economies”.

He said that on the basis of AEF-2019 the first Kazakhstan forum for sustainable development will be held under the auspices of the UN. There will also be a special session dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Eurasian integration, an international conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the International Labor Organization, a roundtable of ministers of finance and heads of central banks of the Caucasus and Central Asia.

“We expect a large number of guests and foreign businessmen who are very interested in and want to come to Kazakhstan to invest. We also expect Nobel Prize winners, economists, representatives of international organizations, well-known scientists and experts, current and former political figures,” – Karzhanov added.

The Astana Economic Forum is an annual business highlight of Eurasia. For 11 years of its operation, the Astana Economic Forum (AEF) has gained a status of one of the most influential international platforms for discussing the recovery and development of the global economy and financial system. The Forum was attended by about 50,000 delegates from 150 countries across the world, among them are over 20 Noble Prize Winners and 30 top-level foreign politicians. In the framework of the congress, more than 300 memorandums and agreements were signed and totalled over US$ 20 billion. The AEF’s topics are annually updated and cover a wide range of challenges and tasks of global development, as well as set the points for extensive discussion.
