SRINAGAR: An awareness camp about the drug de-addiction was conducted by Aasraa Welfare Society with many youth taking part in the camp. Many government officials and reputed citizens of the state addressed the participants of the camp.
Chairperson Aasraa Welfare Society Ruby Nisa Khan expressed concern that youth are involved in drug addiction and anti social activities. She said J&K has been on the boil from so many decades because of drug menace and other kinds of destructive activities. While expressing her concern she said that the state is the land of Sufis and saints.
“This is a place where Gandhi Ji saw a ray of hope. On this paradise, why are we experiencing a blood bath? Why is the youth ruining their career and life for drugs? Why are young boys going off the track? Why is there moral erosion in the valley of Mahatmas and Walis? While as youth is the precious wealth of our nation. They should be healthy and sound so that they can be productive and useful for the country,” said Ruby.
The Chairperson said that some pragmatic solution should be found out for the problems being faced by the society especially the youth. She said that the government should listen to the voices that call for a state free from drugs and killings adding that majority of our masses are suffering from depression and mental disorder. There is a great need to break this vicious circle otherwise in future this heaven will change into a graveyard. Sooner the better reforming steps should be taken against crime and drug addiction, she said.
“To deal with this problem properly mutual respect and love is needed for every religion and sect. Mainly schools and colleges should be keenly monitored by parents and authorities. There should be a proper ward and watch from families, particularly from mothers. Mothers have a great role to play since they can counsel their wards very well. Government should also take the best steps to improve the overall education system and infrastructure, and should focus more on internal situation of the state,” said Ruby.
The Chairperson said that Sufi culture, brotherhood, communal harmony, art and heritage, should be revived. Kashmiri Pashmina, Kashmiri embroidery, Jamawar, Paper Machie and wood carvings should be introduced among youth so that they get employment and income will be generated. There is a great need for proper remedy and guidance for youth. So that the peace prevails in our state and our youth will be away from crime and drugs, she added.
