PULWAMA: Thousands of people on Saturday participated in the funeral prayers of two militants killed in a gunfight with the government forces in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The militants, according to Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, SP Pani, were killed in a “very brief” shootout in Tikken village early today.
An eye witness said that thousands of people descended on Below and Babhara – natives villages of the slain militants as their bullet-riddled bodies reached there.
Reports said that multiple rounds of funeral prayers were held for both the slain militants, Wajid-ul- Islam and Liaqat Ahmad Wani at Babhara and Below villages respectively.
Both the slain militants were yet to be interred when last reports came.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown is being observed in Pulwama district to mourn the killings.
Authorities have suspended the mobile Internet service in the area.
