International Womens’ Day celebrated across Kupwara

KUPWARA: Mission Shakti, Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the District Administration Kupwara today organized a mega event at Town Hall Kupwara to celebrate International Women’s Day. 

The programme witnessed the felicitation of meritorious girl students who were awarded e-gadgets to encourage academic excellence and digital learning. Women entrepreneurs were also honoured for their contribution towards economic empowerment.

The programme was graced by SSP Kupwara, Syed Al Tahir Geelani; ADC Kupwara, Gulzar Ahmad Khan, and District Education Planning Officer, Mohammad Iqbal Shah. Officials from Mission Shakti, Social Welfare Department and Vatsalya, along with participants from the Health Department, Mission Poshan and NRLM were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, SSP Kupwara highlighted the need to ensure safety, dignity and equal opportunities for women, while ADC Kupwara emphasized the importance of women empowerment and education of the girl child for building a progressive society.

During the event, sanitary vending machines were distributed to BHSS Kupwara, GDC Kupwara and GDC Women’s Kupwara to promote menstrual hygiene among girl students. 

A plantation drive and signature campaign were also conducted to raise awareness about women’s rights, gender equality and environmental responsibility.

Earlier, Khalida Yasin from Mission Shakti highlighted the importance of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative and stressed collective efforts towards the protection, education and empowerment of the girl child.

Similar functions were organized at different places across the district to commemorate the International Women’s Day.
