SRINAGAR: The journalistic fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir was plunged into grief following the sudden passing away of senior journalist and Chief Editor of the weekly Kashmir Traveller, Peerzada Nisar Ahmad, in the early hours of Wednesday. His demise has left a deep void in the media landscape of the Valley, where he was widely respected for his professional integrity, fearless reporting, and commitment to truthful journalism.
Peerzada Nisar Ahmad was laid to rest later in the day at his ancestral graveyard in the Tral area of south Kashmir. The funeral prayers were attended by a large number of family members, relatives, friends, colleagues, and well-wishers from different walks of life. Members of the media fraternity, including the team of Voice of Weekly Newspapers Kashmir, were also present to pay their last respects to the departed soul.
Known for his sharp editorial insight and dedication to grassroots issues, Peerzada Nisar Ahmad had been associated with journalism for several decades. Through Kashmir Traveller, he consistently highlighted social, political, and public-interest issues, giving voice to the voiceless and upholding the ethics of responsible journalism. His contributions earned him admiration not only among journalists but also among readers and civil society.
In connection with his demise, a condolence meeting was organized by Voice of Weekly Newspapers Kashmir. The meeting was chaired by the Coordinator, Shakeel Azad, and was attended by several editors, reporters, and media professionals. Speakers at the meeting paid rich tributes to the late journalist, recalling his professionalism, humility, and unwavering commitment to journalistic values. They described his death as an irreparable loss to the media fraternity of Kashmir. The participants prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family, hoping they find strength and patience to bear this immense loss.
