GANDERBAL: In order to review the implementation of the Road Safety Action Plan and discuss multi-sectoral measures to enhance road safety across the district, a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) was today convened here under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore.
Officials from various departments briefed the chair on measures already undertaken to decongest the town areas, smooth flow of traffic and erection of crash barriers, besides installation of road signage at critical points.
The DC directed for installing adequate signage boards, crash barriers at vulnerable sites across the district especially along the national highway to prevent road fatalities.
Transport and Traffic Departments were asked to enforce traffic regulations strictly and take stern action against habitual violators including cancelling their driving licenses, permits and registration certificates. He also directed them to submit a monthly report of action taken against offenders.
The DC directed for inspection/ audit of school buses and vehicles to avert any untoward incidents.
He instructed stakeholders to intensify awareness campaigns in schools, and public spaces to make informed drivers which will ultimately aid in preventing mishaps.
Among others, the meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Superintending Engineer PW (R&B), Chief Medical Officer, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Executive Engineers of various Engineering wings, Dy. CEO, Dy.SP Traffic as well as representatives of NHAI, BRO and sectoral officers from line departments.
