NCORD Committee reviews drug control measures in Udhampur

DC emphasises strengthening counselling services, IEC activities

UDHAMPUR: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai, today convened a meeting of the District Level NCORD Committee to review and reinforce measures aimed to curb drug abuse in the district.

The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Amod Ashok Nagpure; Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh and other officers from multiple departments.

A comprehensive review was conducted on numerous aspects of drug prevention including identification and rehabilitation of addicts, seizures made during 2025, cases registered under the NDPS Act, surveillance of educational institutions, inspections of de-addiction centres and awareness campaigns under IEC and Nasha Mukt Panchayat initiatives.

Discussions also focused on strengthening inter-departmental coordination to track and apprehend individuals involved in drug trafficking, identify abuse hotspots and promote community-level rehabilitation and awareness efforts.

The DC directed all departments to intensify counseling services and enhance IEC activities to sensitize public about the ill effects of drug abuse. She instructed the College Principals to organize regular awareness programs within their institutions, while the Chief Medical Officer was asked to conduct sensitization and counseling sessions for healthcare staff and to further extend IEC campaigns at all health institutions.

The DC stressed the need for strict enforcement actions to seize illicit substances and safeguard the youth from drug addiction. She emphasized need for a collaborative approach among all line departments to disrupt drug supply chains and ensure a comprehensive, community-driven fight against substance abuse.

SDMs were directed to organize awareness drives and sensitize the public about the ill effects of drugs within their respective jurisdictions.
