SRINAGAR: The three-day Research Methodology Workshop organized by the Multidisciplinary Research Unit (MRU) of Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar, under the sponsorship of the Indian Council of Medical Research – Department of Health Research (ICMR–DHR), concluded today.
The workshop, inaugurated on September 02, brought together eminent national and regional experts, faculty members, and young researchers, creating a vibrant platform for academic exchange and skill-building.
Over the course of three days, participants engaged in intensive sessions covering diverse themes, including research design, epidemiology, biostatistics, ethics in health research, data interpretation, and critical appraisal of scientific literature. The interactive modules aimed at equipping researchers with the methodological tools required for high-quality, evidence-based research.
A special highlight of the workshop was the preparation of draft research proposals by participants, which were presented to the resource persons for critical feedback and suggestions. The exercise not only provided hands-on learning but also helped participants refine their ideas and proposals to make them fit for submission for extramural grants from ICMR and other national funding agencies.
Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal/ Dean GMC Srinagar, lauded the successful conduct of the workshop and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to fostering a strong research culture. She acknowledged the contributions of the MRU team and the ICMR-Collaborating Centre of Excellence (CCoE), St. John’s Research Institute Bengaluru, for their academic and technical support.
Resource persons included renowned experts Prof. (Dr.) Prem Mony, Vice-Dean and Professor of Epidemiology, St. John’s Research Institute; Prof. (Dr.) Tinku Thomas, Professor of Biostatistics; Dr. Sumithra Selvam, Assistant Professor of Biostatistics; Dr. Deepika, Scientist C, Department of Health Research, MoHFW; Dr. Tanu Anand, Scientist E, ICMR Headquarters; Sunil Pant, Finance Manager, Department of Health Research, MoHFW; Prof. (Dr.) S. M. Salim Khan, HoD Community Medicine GMC Srinagar; and Prof. (Dr.) Bashir Ahmad Shah, GMC Srinagar.
Prof. Sabhiya Majid, Nodal Officer MRU, expressed gratitude to ICMR–DHR, collaborating institutions, faculty, and the administrative leadership of GMC Srinagar, including Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, Administrator for their unwavering support.
The workshop concluded with distribution of certificates to the participants.
