2 Militants of LeT (TRF) Killed in Kulgam Encounter

Srinagar: Two local militants of Lashkar-e-Taiba (TRF) outfit were killed by government forces in an encounter in South Kashmir Kulgam’s Okey area on Tuesday.

The encounter started in the morning after a cordon and search was carried out by a joint team of Police, 9RR and 18 Bn. CRPF following inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

In the ensuing gunfight two militants were killed by forces. The slain militants, said to be locals, have been identified as Amir Ahmad Wani, a resident of Alamgunj Shopian and Sameer Ahmad Khan, a resident of Tiken Pulwama.

“As per police records, the killed militant Amir Ahmad was a categorized militant linked with proscribed terror outfit LeT (TRF), however the other killed one had joined militants folds recently,” said Police.

It was further said that the duo were part of a group involved in several militant crime cases. Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 01 AK-47, 01 pistol were recovered from their possession, as per the Police.  

Pertinent to mention that the encounter in Kulgam came after two brief gunfights fought in Srinagar’s Shalimar area in which two militants, a local and a foreigner, of LeT outfit were killed by forces.
