Srinagar: Two militants from Srinagar were killed by security forces on Friday in two separate encounters in south Kashmir Pulwama’s Wahibug area and Srinagar’s Bemina.

First encounter started in Pulwama on Friday late afternoon after security forces launched a cordon and search operation, which converted into a gunfight. In the ensuing fight, one militant was killed by forces. The slain militant was identified as Shahid Bashir Sheikh, a resident of Srinagar.

As per IGP-K Vijay Kumar, Sheikh was involved in the killing of Mohammad Shafi Dar, a PDD employee. Dar was killed at SD Colony in Batamaloo during evening time outside his home. “AK 47 rifle was used in his killing. One AK rifle along with Mag/Amn recovered,” said police quoting IGP-K.

However, in another encounter on Friday evening in Bemina area of Srinagar, a militant was killed by security forces. The police identified the slain militant as Tanzeel, a resident of Srinagar’s Habba Kadal.

Tanzeel, as per IGP-K, was affiliated with TRF outfit and was involved in the killing of PSI Arshid in Srinagar.

The encounters took place more than a week after DGP, J&K, Dilbag Singh had told, in the aftermath of killings of Sikh Principal and a teacher in Srinagar by militants, that police have enough leads in the civilian killings and will succeed in unmasking the ones behind the killings of civilians.

Till the filing of this report, there was one militant killed in Pulwama and another one in Srinagar.
